DPR Preparation of East Rapti River Training Works

The East Rapti River has been destructive during the floods to the parts Makwanpur and Chitwan district. The flood has been very destructive and thus the protective measures are proposed. Many attempt in the past has made to control East Rapti River. There has been partial success with these attempts. Present study extends over the entire length of East Rapti river in Chitwan and Makawanpur. The confluence of East Rapti and Samari in Hetauda is the start point of the study in Makawanpur district. Total length of River included within the study area – from Samari Bridge, Hetauda to Golaghat, confluence of East Rapti and Narayani, Bharatpur – is 110 km. East Rapti River in Makawanpur is generally, steeper and causes bank cutting and erosion problems while in Chitwan, it is milder with overtopping of bank and flooding the plain as major problems.
